తన సివిల్స్ ప్రయాణం ఎలా సాగిందో, విజయానికి ఏయే అంశాలు దోహద పడ్డాయో అతడు స్వయంగా చెబుతున్నాడు...!
తొలి నుంచీ మా ఇంట్లో సామాజిక స్పృహ ఎక్కువే. సామాజిక ఉద్యమాల ప్రభావం అమ్మానాన్నలపై ఉంది. వారి ఆలోచనల ప్రభావం నాపై ఉంది. వర్తమాన పరిణామాలపై ఇప్పటికీ కుటుంబసభ్యుల మధ్య చర్చ, సంవాదం జరుగుతూనే ఉంటాయి. మధ్యతరగతి నేపథ్యం, తల్లిదండ్రులిద్దరూ ప్రభుత్వ (మాజీ) ఉద్యోగులు కావడం, సమాజ పరిస్థితులపై కుటుంబ సభ్యులందరికీ అవగాహన ఉండటం.. ఇవన్నీ సివిల్స్ రాయాలనే నా ఆలోచనలో స్పష్టత రావడానికి తోడ్పడ్డాయి.
ఈ విషయంలో మా పెదనాన్న కొండూరు పురుషోత్తమే నాకు స్ఫూర్తిప్రదాత. ఆయన డిప్యుటేషన్‌పై నల్గొండ జిల్లాలో ఎంపీడీవోగా సేవలందించారు. గ్రామాలకు రహదారులు, తాగునీటి సరఫరా లాంటి సదుపాయాలు కల్పించడంలో శక్తివంచన లేకుండా కృషిచేశారు. నిబద్ధతతో పనిచేసే లక్షణం ఉంటే సమాజంలో మార్పు తీసుకొచ్చేందుకు అవకాశముందనే భావన ఆయన్ను చూసిన తర్వాతే నాలో బలపడింది.
చార్టర్డ్‌ అకౌంటెంట్‌గా వృత్తిరీత్యా రాష్ట్రంలో, దేశంలో అనేక ప్రాంతాలు తిరిగాను. ప్రజలూ, ప్రాంతాల మధ్య ఎన్నో అంతరాలు... వీటిని రూపుమాపి జన జీవన ప్రమాణాలను మెరుగుపరిచేందుకు ప్రభావవంతమైన పని ఏమైనా చేయగలనా అన్న ప్రశ్న వేసుకున్నా. సమాధానం అన్వేషించే క్రమంలో సివిల్స్ అత్యుత్తమ మార్గంగా కనిపించింది.
ఈ పరీక్ష రాద్దామనే ఆలోచన 2009-10లో తుదిరూపు దిద్దుకొంది. 2010 డిసెంబరు నుంచి సన్నద్ధత తీవ్రతరం చేశాను.
ఆసక్తి, ప్రాథమికాంశాలపై అవగాహన, మెటీరియల్‌ లభ్యత, సిలబస్‌ సకాలంలో పూర్తిచేయగలనన్న విశ్వాసం, రెలవెన్స్‌ ప్రాతిపదికగా ఆప్షనల్స్‌ ఎంచుకున్నాను. వాణిజ్యశాస్త్రం, అర్థశాస్త్రం అరుదైన ఆప్షనల్సే. కానీ ఇవి నాకు బాగా నచ్చాయి. వాణిజ్యశాస్త్రంపై నాకు పట్టుంది. అర్థశాస్త్రం విషయానికి వస్తే- భారత్‌ ఎదుగుతున్న ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థ. ఈ కోణంలో చూస్తే అర్థశాస్త్రంలో ప్రవేశం ఉండటం సర్వీసులో చేరాక బాగా ఉపయోగపడుతుందని అనిపించింది.
ప్రణాళిక
ప్రిలిమ్స్‌కూ, మెయిన్స్‌కూ విడివిడిగా సిద్ధమవడం కంటే హోలిస్టిక్‌ దృక్పథంతో రెండింటికీ కలిపి తయారవటం మంచిదని నా అభిప్రాయం. జనరల్‌ స్టడీస్‌ ప్రాథమికాంశాల కోసం ఎన్‌సీఈఆర్‌టీ 11, 12 తరగతుల పుస్తకాలు తిరగేశా. ఢిల్లీ 'శ్రీరామ్స్‌ ఐఏఎస్‌' మెటీరియల్‌ అందులో ముఖ్యంగా ఇండియన్‌ ఎకానమీ, పాలిటీ, కరెంట్‌ అఫైర్స్‌ నోట్స్‌ బాగా చదివాను. ఎకనమిక్‌ సర్వే, 'ఇండియా ఇయర్‌బుక్‌'లను ఆకళింపు చేసుకున్నాను.
తెలుగు పేపర్లలో వచ్చే మంచి వ్యాసాల గురించి నాన్న నాతో చర్చించేవారు. విద్యారంగ విషయాలపై అమ్మతో మాట్లాడేవాడిని. ద హిందూ, ఫ్రంట్‌లైన్‌, ది ఇండియన్‌ ఎక్స్‌ప్రెస్‌ (ఢిల్లీ ఎడిషన్‌), ఈనాడు, ఎకనమిక్‌ అండ్‌ పొలిటికల్‌ వీక్లీ పత్రికలు చదివా. పీఐబీ వెబ్‌సైట్‌, ఫేస్‌బుక్‌లో 'ప్రాజెక్ట్‌ సిండికేట్‌' పేజ్‌ చూశా. అంతర్జాతీయ వ్యవహారాలూ, రక్షణ అంశాలకు ఈ పేజ్‌ బాగా ఉపయోగపడుతుంది.
* జీఎస్‌ పేపర్లకూ, జనరల్‌ ఎస్సే పేపర్‌కూ దాదాపు ఒకేలా సన్నద్ధమయ్యా. వ్యాసానికి 200 మార్కులు ఉండటాన్ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొని దానికి అనుగుణంగా సమాధానం రాయడం సాధన చేశా. ఎలాంటి వ్యాసం ఎలా రాయాలి అన్న దానికి సంబంధించి కొన్ని నమూనాలు రూపొందించుకున్నా. 20 నుంచి 25 అంశాలపై పూర్తిస్థాయిలో సన్నద్ధమయ్యా. 2012లో ప్రభుత్వ ప్రైవేటు భాగస్వామ్యం (పీపీపీ)పై ఇచ్చిన వ్యాసం రాశా.
* ఆప్షనల్స్‌ రెండూ కూడా నాకు నచ్చే తీసుకున్నా. కానీ ఆర్థిక శాస్త్రంపైనే ఎక్కువ సమయం వెచ్చించాల్సి వచ్చింది.
మూడు పెద్ద పొరపాట్లు
మొదటి ప్రయత్నం (2011) తర్వాత ఓసారి సమీక్షించుకుంటే మూడు పెద్ద పొరపాట్లు చేసినట్లు అనిపించింది...
1. తగినన్ని నమూనా పరీక్షలకు (మాక్‌ టెస్టులకు) హాజరుకాకపోవడం.
2. అనవసర ఆందోళనతో అపరిమితమైన మెటీరియల్‌ చదవడం.
3. ఆప్షనల్స్‌పై తగినంతగా దృష్టి పెట్టకపోవడం.
తొలి ప్రయత్నంలో వైఫల్యం బాధించింది. రెండో ప్రయత్నంలో కామర్స్‌ పేపర్‌ ఒకటి సరిగా రాయలేకపోయాననే భావన కలిగింది. సివిల్స్ లాంటి పరీక్షల్లో విజయం కోసం ప్రయత్నించే క్రమంలో ఇలాంటి దశలు ఎదురుకావడం సాధారణమే. వీటితో డీలా పడిపోకూడదు. పరిస్థితులను బేరీజు వేసుకొంటూ గుండెనిబ్బరంతో ముందుకు సాగాలి.
లోటుపాట్లు విశ్లేషించుకుని వ్యూహం సమీక్షించుకున్నాను. మొదటి ప్రయత్నంలో జనరల్‌స్టడీస్‌లో సమయపాలన పాటించలేకపోయా. తర్వాతి ప్రయత్నంలో దానిపై దృష్టి కేంద్రీకరించాను. వీలైనన్ని ఎక్కువ నమూనా పరీక్షలు రాశా. అత్యధిక పరీక్షలు ఇంట్లోనే ఉండి రాసి చూసుకున్నాను. మెటీరియల్‌ మరింత లోతుగా పదేపదే చదివా.
సివిల్స్ మెయిన్స్‌లో ప్రవేశపెట్టిన కొత్త పరీక్షా విధానం బాగుంది. కొందరు అభ్యర్థులకే అనుచిత ప్రయోజనం కలగకుండా ఈ పద్ధతి ఉపకరిస్తుంది.
పుస్తకాలతో సహవాసం
పాఠశాల రోజుల నుంచే పత్రికా పఠనం అలవడింది. పుస్తకాలు చదవడం మొదటి నుంచీ బాగా అలవాటు. సివిల్స్‌పై దృష్టి కేంద్రీకరించక ముందు కాల్పనిక రచనలు చదివేవాడిని. ఈ పరీక్షలపై దృష్టి సారించాక, వివిధ అంశాలపై అవగాహన, విషయ పరిజ్ఞానం పెంచుకోవడానికి కాల్పనికేతర పుస్తకాలు బాగా చదివా.
భిన్న వైఖరులు తెలుసుకునేందుకు వీలు కల్పించేలా పుస్తక పఠనం ఉండాలి. అమర్త్యసేన్‌, రామచంద్ర గుహ, శశిథరూర్‌ లాంటి రచయితల పుస్తకాలు ఎక్కువగా చదువుతాను. మంచి పుస్తకమనిపిస్తే ఎవరిదైనా చదువుతా.
మౌఖిక పరీక్ష... ప్రశ్నల తీరు
డేవిడ్‌ బోర్డు నన్ను పర్సనాలిటీ టెస్ట్‌ (ఇంటర్వ్యూ) చేసింది. 25 నిమిషాలపాటు సాగింది. ఇంటర్వ్యూలో వాస్తవాధారితమైన, మెలిక ఉన్న ప్రశ్నలూ; విశ్లేషణాత్మకమైన, ఓపెన్‌ ఎండెడ్‌ ప్రశ్నలూ అడిగారు. మొదటి రకం ప్రశ్నలు ప్రధానంగా నా వృత్తి నేపథ్యానికి సంబంధించినవి. రెండోరకం ప్రశ్నలు జనరల్‌ స్టడీస్‌, ఆప్షనల్స్‌పై అడిగారు.
అడిగిన కొన్ని ప్రశ్నలు:
* ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌లో ప్రస్తుతమున్న మూడు ప్రధాన సమస్యలు ఏమిటి?
* ఏపీలో విద్యుత్‌ సంక్షోభానికి కారణమేమిటి? మీరైతే దాన్ని ఎలా ఎదుర్కొంటారు?
* ప్రస్తుత ద్రవ్యోల్బణంపై మీరేమంటారు?
* రాజ్యాంగంలో పేర్కొన్న ఎమర్జెన్సీ నిబంధనలు ఏవి?
* సీఏ ఒక గౌరవప్రదమైన వృత్తి. సీఏగా మీరు చేయలేనిదీ, సివిల్‌ సర్వెంట్‌గా మీరు చేయగలిగేదీ ఏమిటి?
* ఈమధ్య కాలంలో సీఏలపై ఆరోపణలు ఎక్కువగా వస్తున్నాయి. వీటిపై మీ అభిప్రాయం ఏమిటి?
* కంపెనీ లా గురించి చెప్పండి.
* పేమెంట్‌ ఆఫ్‌ బోనస్‌ యాక్ట్‌ గురించి చెప్పండి.
* 'రామోజీ ఫిల్మ్‌సిటీ' ప్రత్యేకత ఏమిటి? హైదరాబాద్‌లో ఇంకా ఏ స్టూడియోలున్నాయి?
మధుర స్మృతి
సివిల్స్ ప్రయాణంలో నాకు మధుర స్మృతి మాత్రం పర్సనాలిటీ టెస్టే. ఎంతగా సన్నద్ధమైనా ఇంటర్వ్యూ ప్రారంభమయ్యాక సాధారణంగా నాలుగైదు నిమిషాలకే మీ అసలు వ్యక్తిత్వం బయటపడిపోతుంది. ఒకట్రెండు చోట్ల కాస్త తడబడ్డా మొత్తమ్మీద సంతృప్తికరంగా చేశా.
స్పష్టమైన, నిర్దిష్టమైన సమాధానం తెలియని ప్రశ్నలకు అంచనాలు, వూహల ఆధారంగా జవాబిచ్చేందుకు ప్రయత్నించలేదు. బోర్డు గదిలోకి ఎంత ఆత్మస్త్థెర్యంతో వెళ్లానో, అంతే ఆత్మస్త్థెర్యంతో బయటకు వచ్చాను. మంచి మార్కులు వస్తాయని గట్టి నమ్మకం కుదిరింది. అందుకే మధురస్మృతిగా నిలిచిపోయింది.
సివిల్స్‌లో విజయంతో సమాజానికి సేవ చేసేందుకు వీలుగా ఒక తలుపు తెరచుకొంది. అసలు ప్రయాణం ఇప్పుడు మొదలవుతుంది!

Inter Kurradi Bhavodvegam...ఇంటర్‌ కుర్రాడి భావోద్వేగం
ఇద్దరు వ్యక్తుల మధ్య గొడవలు. రెండు సమూహాల మధ్య కక్షలు. రెండు దేశాల మధ్య విద్వేషాలు. కారణం మనిషిలో రగిలే భావోద్వేగాలే. ఆదిలాబాద్‌ కుర్రాడ్ని ఇది ఆలోచనల్లో పడేసింది. ఈ అసహజ భావోద్వేగ తీవ్రతను తగ్గించడానికి తన వంతుగా ఏదైనా చేయాలనుకున్నాడు. వ్యాసరచన పోటీల్లో ముందుండే అతడి నేపథ్యం పుస్తకం రాయడానికి ప్రేరేపించింది. అప్పుడతడు ఇంటర్‌ విద్యార్థి. చదువుతూనే ఖాళీ సమయాల్లో ఆలోచనలకు పని చెప్పాడు. అవి 'ఎమోషన్స్‌' పుస్తకంగా మారడానికి నెలలు పట్టింది. వస్తూనే నాలుగు వేల కాపీలు అమ్ముడయ్యాయి. 'ఒకవిధంగా ఆలోచిస్తే ఈ ప్రపంచంలోని మనుషులంతా రక్తసంబంధీకులే. పగ, ప్రతీకారం, కుట్ర, మతవిద్వేషాలు వాళ్ల మధ్య చిచ్చుపెడుతున్నాయి. వీటికి బదులు ప్రేమ, స్నేహం అనుబంధాలు పంచితే మనమంతా ఒక కుటుంబంలా మెలగొచ్చు' అని తన పుస్తకంలో చెప్పాడు.
